Cyberlords Arcology is a new RPG game from popular game developer HandyGames. They decided to go with
a futuristic RPG on this one and while it’s not bad there is definitely some room for improvement. It’s very similar to the old genesis version of Shadowrun and has that same retro feel to it. The storyline is well done and you can customize your characters with different weapons and cybernetic implants.
Gameplay & Features
You get to build a team of four soldiers and enhance them along with their abilities as the game progresses. Your character upgrades are biomechanical in nature and help to increase your skills and abilities. You are supposed tobe able to “hack” into security systems, but I haven’t gotten that far in the game yet. There are many different items and weapons you can equip; I believe there are around 20 different weapons in all.
The controls are very simple. You can pan around your environment by swiping your finger, letting you view rooms or corridors that lie ahead of you. To move around all you need to do is touch the screen, setting a marker that tells your character where to go. The same is said for fighting, click on the villain and your character will attack. The game appears to be pretty deep. The storyline seems well thought out, and there is quite a bit of information to take in. Luckily you can skip quickly through the talking scenes if you’re more about the action.
If you ever played Shadowrun or Buck Rodgers on the old Snes or Genesis, you’ll recognize Cyberlords Arcology. They are very similar and while that’s not a bad thing, there are some things that could be improved upon. The storyline and the free version ad were the main gripe for me. The storyline was well thought out, but was almost too much to try and take in. The ad placement in the free version is about the worst I’ve seen and can distract you from the gameplay somewhat. There are free and paid versions available for download in the Android Market. The free one has the annoying ad, but the paid version is priced at $4.17, which seems a bit high. That being said, I had fun playing this RPG and will go back and finish it soon. If you’re a fan of Cyberpunk genre you’ll probably want to check this out.
