jamcast android app review

Debuting today on the Android Market is the new streaming music player, Jamcast Player for Android. The app is available as a free download but to use it you need to purchase the Jamcast Server which will cost you $29.99. The software is also available on a free 14-day trial version to give you an idea whether you should use it or not.

Using Jamcast Server, you can create your own private cloud where you can share your entire digital music collection. The Jamcast Player installed on your Android phone connects it to your private cloud on the Jamcast Server through 3G/4G or Wi-Fi data connection. Once connected, you will be able to browse, search, and stream your digital music collection from anywhere using your Android phone.

Sounds interesting? Wait, there’s still more. Jamcast Player also gives you full control over the audio quality and network data usage through adjustable performance configurations by network connection type. Even better is the fact that Jamcast Player supports various music formats such as FLAC/FLAC HD, OGG, MP3, WMA, ALAC, and AAC/AAC+.

Other features of the Jamcast Player Android app include – gapless playback, automatic internet server discovery, integrated security, voice search, car dock support and SD card installation. The player even displays high resolution album art when available.

I was given free access to the beta version of Jamcast Player and have been using it on my Samsung Galaxy S II paired Windows Desktop. Quiet surprisingly, Jamcast Player indeed streams music flawlessly. It was as if the digital music is stored in your Android device. The gapless playback feature is indeed true.

Installing and setting up the Jamcast Server was pretty easy as well. I was able to connect my Samsung Galaxy S II to the Jamcast Server on my desktop and was able to immediately stream my digital content from my PC to my phone.

Overall,  Jamcast Player is a good streaming music player. If you don’t mind paying extra for the Jamcast Server for Windows, I’m pretty sure you’ll love the Jamcast Android app and what it can do for you.

Jamcast Player is available now as a free download from the Android Market.
