Quick Review – Cornhole for Android

Even though summer has passed for a lot of us, you can still play one game associated with season on your phone with Cornhole from Tim Joyce, Markie Arnold, and Mark Abrams. If you’ve never heard of the game, it involves players tossing beanbags at a board while trying to score points. It’s much harder than it sounds and it’s also a lot of fun to play. Can the same be said for its Android counterpart? Read on to find out…

For those of you that haven’t played the game it goes a little something like this… Teams throw bags towards the board while rotating turns in-between throws. Each bag on the board is worth 1 point while one in the hole is worth 3. You can cancel the other teams bag’s out by matching their bags on the board (1 red + 1 grey) and the first team to score 21 points wins. Actually throwing the bags is made easy through a slider or by “free flicking” for those of us who like it tough. The slider is pretty cool, as you’ll slide your finger up to set the power and can nudge it left or right to adjust it for the wind. If you decide to “flick” it, you just touch the bag and try and flick it towards the board; you have to get a feel for it just like with the flick sports games. There isn’t much to see in the options/extras department, but there are 3 modes of difficulty and if you set it on Hard you can’t use the slider. You turn the wind off, and you can also play against the cpu or a friend via pass n’ play. The developers are supposed to implement leaderboards in the near future as well.

Cornhole for Android is a simple yet fun game to play and a great way to kill a little time. The slider makes the bags easy to throw, and if it gets too easy flicking the bags definitely makes it harder. Adding leaderboards will give players something to shoot for, but I wish the developers would add a function to let you knock the other bags off the board or bump your own ones in. Fans of Cornhole will get a kick out of the game, and people new to the backyard game will have fun with this one as well. You can pickup Cornhole for free in the Android market.
