Fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead got a treat a few weeks ago with a new Android game called The Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning. As promised, we’re back with a full review of this awesome game and if you’re a fan of the series, The Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning is a game you won’t want to miss.
The Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning isn’t your typical Zombie shooter, but you will get to pop a few shots here and there. This point and click touch game has all the style of the comic books and drops you into a Zombie plagued world as everyone’s favorite moody killing machine… Shane Walsh. The game takes place before the events of the show, right when the shit hits the fan and nobody’s sure what’s going on. As Shane you’ll have to keep yourself and those around you safe as you try figure out who’s infected and who’s not. Every decision you make in the game will have repercussions, and if you know Shane you’ll know he can make some boneheaded decisions.
Moving throughout the game is as easy as turning a page or pressing a button at the appropriate time. There are no real controls to speak of, but there is a status tab that shows the condition of anyone you come across. As mentioned you will get to fire off a few shots, but that also depends on the decisions you make. At the end of each chapter you’re given a score to see how you well you did based on your choices and you’ll be scored again at the end of the game. It’s a very simple game to play and if you have trouble playing Dead Reckoning you really shouldn’t play video games or operate any kind of machinery.
The Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning won’t blow you away with its intense 3-D worlds or mind numbing gameplay, but it will let you step into the role of Shane which is quite a bit of fun. I enjoyed the way the game played out, and it was especially nice to see a little backstory about what went down before the show. Hell, it was fun just being Shane as the character in the game comes off exactly like the character on the show.
The only real gripe I have which isn’t really a gripe, is the fact that while complete the game left me wanting more as it is a bit short. That being said, I sincerely HOPE that this isn’t the last Walking Dead interactive game we see from AMC. How cool would it be to play as Herschel, Daryl or Dale? Give me an interactive Dale game and I’ll show you some happy fans. Sequels aside, if you dig interactive games, Zombies or are a fan of The Walking Dead you need to get this game.
